Reflections of Society in the Buffyverse
[Click on the link above to see this paper's placement in the SCBtVS Program.]
Sunnydale, California is your average American town that lies atop the Hellmouth. Aside from trying to slay vampires and save the world, Buffy and her friends still have to worry about school, family, love and their future. From cheerleading tryouts to college roommates, Buffy the Vampire Slayer reflects everyday 'evils' that teens battle. "Reflections of Society in the Buffyverse" is a critical cultural analysis of every single Buffy episode. Institutional affliation: I am an "independent" scholar - yet I teach at UMKC's Communiversity (http://www.umkc.edu/commu). I teach a course of the same title each semester. Taken from the paper, the class views between 8-16 episodes per semester and discusses them at length. |
