When looking at Buffy and her modes of survival, it becomes clear that Buffy's power alone cannot protect her. Although the support of her friends' powers (whether in magicks, kindness, or intelligence) are beneficial, it is the text in itself that protects Buffy the most. Thus, Giles as Watcher is not only about training and educating Buffy, but also about decoding the texts that predict Buffy's fate, find the demons' weak spots, cast the spells, and pull the group closer together. I will specifically argue that the texts IN Buffy directly interact with the text OF Buffy, in an intertextually metafictional way. My aim is to define "Intel-textual metaftiction" and apply the term to the Buffy series.
