Buffy as a Pedagogical Tool in the Composition Classroom

Many composition instructors face the challenge of finding topics that both engage their students and at the same time offer critical thinking skills. This instructor based small papers on in-class viewings of select Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes during her Fall Quarter 2003 English 101 classes, and found the students engaged in the topic, as well as able to write critically about what they had seen. Introducing pop-culture into the classroom is no longer a novel idea, but the presentation of BtVS as a pedagogical tool to enhance writing and thinking skills is. There will be a paper that discusses her findings, handouts, and small clips from the episodes. |
