Close the door and leave the world behind you
Open the window and listen to the breeze blow through the pines
Take a deep breath, what more can you do
The breeze flew through the blue skies, offering little comfort to the two solitary figures that stood in the graveyard.
The familiarity that surrounded them provided them with no solace for their loss, only a poignant feeling of melancholy, for it was not their first time in the cemetery.
And certainly not their last.
Let the sun fall down all around you
Let the night surround you in a blanket of starlight
I'll whisper you a lullaby
Let the sun fall down
A blonde girl kneeled in front of one particular tombstone, trying to maintain what was left of her resolve. Tears threatened to drop from her hazel eyes. Though young, they betrayed loss and pain beyond her years. Her eyes were the window into such an old soul, a soul that had faced the sting of pain time and time again.
In her hand was one white rose, that she laid tremblingly down. On the tombstone, her fingertips grazed the name of Rupert Giles, her watcher, mentor and friend. A great man, a man she considered her father.
"Giles..." Buffy's quivering voice started, "Who's going to look that annoyed at me now?" she whispered, her voice and resolve breaking. Closing her eyes, her tears fell down her face, dropping onto the ground.
"How am I supposed to do this without you?" she cried, remembering her words from years ago. "How am I supposed to do this without you?" she whispered again.
That old dark cloud acts like he knows you
He takes up too much time, time you could be spending holding me
But he can't have you now
It's you and me here in this room
(Oh) let the sun fall down all around you
Let the night surround you in a blanket of starlight
I'll whisper you a lullaby
Let the sun fall down
"I'll take care of the world for you, I'll watch over Willow and Xander and..." the broken slayer continued," Your going to watch over me, ok?" her lips tasting the saltiness of the tears streaming down her face.
With that, the chosen one broke down completely, her face in her lap, the sound of her sorrow deafening the deathly cemetery. Time stopped, as Buffy Summers wept for the loss of Rupert Giles.
The world will keep on turning
It'll all be there come morning
So tonight
Seeing his beloved in such pain, Angel wished for the thousandth time that he could take her pain away. That he could take her hurt upon himself, sparing her such sorrow. Gazing over at her, he saw the picture of his one and only huddled over in her grief, her hair glistening in the suns rays.
The sunlight that once was deadly, became, over the years a great comfort to the immortal, since he was cured. But now, no. Even it couldn't comfort Angel while the cries of his love resounded in the air.
Let the sun fall down all around you
Let the night surround you in a blanket of starlight
I'll whisper you a lullaby
Taking a step forward, he place a hand on the shoulder of Buffy's quivering form, offering what little comfort he could. Taking her hand in his, he pulled her over in an embrace, her tears wetting his shirt.
"Angel..." Buffy breathed, trying to lose herself in his arms.
It wasn't fair, Angel thought. The demons and evil of the earth were roaming the earth, enjoying the comfort of immortality, while men such great men as Rupert Giles succumbed to the ravages of time.
His thoughts were interrupted by the Slayer's ceasing cries. Pulling away from him, the Slayer's tired eyes stared into his, her hand brushing against his cheek. Seeking comfort in his presence, the slayer longingly gazed at the tombstone in remembrance.
Remembrance of unfulfilled hopes, lost friends and times past.
(Oh) let the sun fall down all around you
Let the night surround you in a blanket of starlight
I'll whisper you a lullaby
Let the sun fall down
It was time to leave, to continue living, to continue fighting. Taking his hand and breathing in the memory of her watcher, the Slayer and Immortal walked out of the cemetery in silence.
