TRASCRIZIONE PROFILO DI SPIKE DAI DVD DELLA 'BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER COLLECTION'

 - Collin:<< Who are you? >>

Spike:<< Spike >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: I'm not a vampire but I play one on tv.

                                                                             SPIKE

- Spike:<< So, who do you kill for fun around here? >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: The audition was for a vampire patterned after The Sex Pistols, after Sid Vicious who came from north London. So, um, I didn't know that specific accent, but I was doing a play with a man from north London.

- Spike:<< Home sweet home. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: As far as Spike being a punk rocker and a punk, it works really well. I think that's mostly due to the fact that Joss spent time in England and London and knows that world and probably hung out with it.

- Spike:<< Or did we finally find a restaurant that delivers? >>

Billy:<< I know who are you. >>

Spike:<< Yeah, I know who I am too. So what? >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: Joss is a punk at heart, so he's able to write that very well. And it sustains because it's not just an affectation.

- Spike:<< Yeah, I'll show you who's a cool guy. You're goin' down. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: And it fits well with his ribellious spirit. He is a bit of an anarchist himself. In the best way. He likes to shake it up, but in a loving, humorous way. But he is a rebel.

                                                                    SEASON 2, EPISODE 3

                                                                        "SCHOOL HARD"

JAMES MARSTERS: Spike came in and I got fan mail and everybody was very pleased. And Joss took me aside and said "dude, this is not the Spike show. You are here because we don't want to kill off a villain every episode. So it doesn't become Scooby Doo."

- Spike:<< Who am I kidding? I love to brag. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: Probably my most foolish moment of the second season, and I have many...I always have stupid things I do on the set. But probably my finest moment was my first entrance on the camera.

- Spike:<< If every vampire who said he was at the Crucifixion was actually there, it would have been like woodstock. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: It looks like a lot of very large acting. And Joss came up to me after that day and said "give me more Tim Roth and less Laurence Olivier".

- Spike:<< I was actually at woodstock. That was a weird gig. I fed off a flower person, and I spent the next six hours watchin' my hand move. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: I feel the accent got better as we went along.

- Spike:<< Drusilla. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: Drusilla is Spike's first love. Both in his human life and his vampiric life. It's the only love up till now that he's know.

- Drusilla:<< Look at all the people. Are these nice people? >>

Spike:<< We're gettin' along. >>

Drusilla:<< This one has power. I could feel from the outside. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: She presses every button in Spike to wanna white knight it.

- Drusilla:<< Kill her for princess? >>

Spike:<< I'll chop her into messes. >>

Drusilla:<< You are my sweet. My little Spike. >> -

JULIET LANDAU: He came in and it was like an actor's dream of playing with each other in the moment.

- Drusilla:<< I'm cold. >>

Spike:<< I got you. >> -

JULIET LANDAU: In the first episode when we're introduced, we just had this moment...

- Drusilla:<< I'm a princess. >>

Spike:<< That's what you are. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: We did this thing were...

JULIET LANDAU: We were lingering and then we turned out.

JAMES MARSTERS: Almoust kissing. Like that.

JULIET LANDAU: That thing. And it just happened within James' audition. And it was kept and used on that introductory episode.

JAMES MARSTERS: It's the contrast between the fact they don't have souls and seem to be pure evil and they also have this incredible love that is even deeper than something we may be able to understand.

- Spike:<< This is the place for us. The Hellmouth will restore you, put colour in your cheeks, metaphorically speaking, and in a few week's time... >>

Drusilla:<< The stars will align and smile down on us. >>

Spike:<< And then...God, this town will burn. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: We were afraid we were getting freaky. Feeding of puppies and stuff like that. Oh, a million little lines and stuff. "I love you, eyeballs to entrails, my sweet." And the crew would be, like, "Oh, God, that's good eew." I'm like, "what? It's just us".

- Drusilla:<< I think sometimes that all my hair will fall out and I'll be bald. >>

Spike:<< Never happen. All right, I'll go up and get chanty with the fellas. But you got to do me on favour. Eat something. >> -

                                                                       SEASON 2, EPISODE 7

                                                                               "LIE TO ME"

                                                                                        &

                                                                       SEASON 3, EPISODE 8

                                                                            "LOVERS WALK"

JAMES MARSTERS: In season 2 you see both that love set up very clearly and then completely ripped apart by the end of it. So you're able to explore two characters who might've just been Frankenstein villains and explore revenge, betrayal, everything that happens when love is not clean. And so they ended up just having me be lovelorn and quite the putz. It was great.

- Spike:<< I want Dru back, I've just got to be the man I was. The man she loved. I'll do what I should have done in the first place. Find her, wherever she is, tie her up, torture her, till she likes me again. >> -

MARTI NOXON: Spike was a character who, when he was gone from the show, you felt the absence.

- Spike:<< I gave her everything. Beautiful jewels, beautiful dresses with beautiful girls in them. But nothin' made her on a bench, makin' out with the Chaos demon. Have you ever seen a Chaos demon? All slime and antlers. They're disgusting. >> -

MARTI NOXON: Then you'd go throught an arc and they're not around any more. You start to feel like gosh, I really wish he had that energy, that voice. We thought about bringing them both back, but Juliet wasn't available. And we thought "hey, why not just Spike alone?"

- Spike:<< Why do you know? It's your fault, the both of you! She belongs with me. I'm nothing without her. >> -

MARTI NOXON: We gave him a couple of episodes to see what happened, and, obviously, the rest is history because he's all over the show now. And we love that character. He's a joy to write for.

- Buffy:<< Just tell me what I wanna know. >>

Spike:<< I told you. No one's narrating on an empty stomach here. >>

Buffy:<< Were you born this big a pain in the ass? >>

Spike:<< Well, what can I tell you, baby? I've always been bad. >> -

                                                                        SEASON 5, EPISODE 7

                                                                           "FOOL FOR LOVE"

JANE ESPENSON: In "fool for love", season 5, we got to see him before he was vamped, and he was William the sensitive poet.

- Cecily:<< Your poetry, it's...they're...not written about me, are they? >>

William:<< They're about how I feel. >>

Cecily:<< Yes, but are they about me? >>

William:<< Every syllable. >> -

JANE ESPENSON: And once you know that, it kinda all falls into place. He's been looking for a world in which he can feel strong and confident. And yet, when he falls in love, he's got a poet's heart. And he gives himself completely.

- William:<< I know I'm a bad poet, but I'm a good man and all I ask is that...that you try to see me... >>

Cecily:<< I do see you. That's the problem. You're nothing to me, William. You're beneath me. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: In season 5 I had the enormous pleausure of being completely terrified by my job. When we went back into the past and saw Spike in his wig as a nancy boy, that absolutely scared the living hell outta me. I was, like, "Joss, you're taking away my cool, man!"

- Drusilla:<< Do you want it? >>

William:<< Oh, yes. God, yes. Ow. ow, ow, ow. Ow, ow! Oh, oh, oh oh! >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: At the end of season 4 I told Joss that the beginning of the year was scary for me. It was kinda like a rollercoaster. You go up the first hill and you're a bit scared and you start screaming at the first drop, but by the end of it, you're laughing and you don't care what happens next.

- Spike:<< How many of my kind reckon you've done? >>

Buffy:<< Not enough. >>

Spike:<< And we just keep comin'. But you can kill a hundred, a thousand, a thousand thousand, and the armies of hell besides, and all we need is for one of us - just one - sooner or later to have the thing we're all hoping for. >>

Buffy:<< And that would be what? >>

Spike:<< One good day. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: He got an evil look in his eye and says "I need to tell you something". He pulled me back around and he said "you are gonna be developing a thing for Buffy. That'll be in the plot, so get ready for it."

- Buffy:<< What the hell are you doing? >>

Spike:<< Come on. I can feel it, Slayer. You know you wanna dance. >>

Buffy:<< Say it's true. Say I do want to. It wouldn't be you, Spike. It would never be you. You're beneath me. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: Being in love with Buffy has more possibilities there's more roads to go down to and go throught. But we see very clearly in season 5 that Spike is hanging around for her. He's there to protect Buffy and whoever is important to her.

- Buffy:<< What do you want now? >>

Spike:<< What's wrong? >>

Buffy:<< I don't wanna talk about it. >>

Spike:<< Is there something I can do? >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: He's a sociopath who enjoys killing people and ripping their lungs out, but at the same time, he's a very sensitive guy.

(Images)

Spike is the best role I have ever been offered because he was designed to be a disponsable villain. And so he was set not to kill me, but then they had to take me in a different direction.

- Drusilla:<< You can't blame a girl, Spike. You're all covered with her. I look at you, all I see is the slayer. >> -

JAMES MARSTERS: And they're forced to put a lot of energy to bending the character away from disponsable villain into something more three-dimensional. And there's a lot of energy being put in by the writers to make me interesting.
